Leadership

God calls individuals, whose lives best exemplify the Biblical qualifications of the position of pastor, overseer/elder, ministerial staff and deacon, to lead the local body. They are selected and affirmed by the local body after prayerful consideration. Leaders are called by God to uphold church doctrine and to live lives worthy of respect. The local church is called to submit to their authority.

ELDERS

Definition of an Elder

 The church elders are to assist the Senior Pastor and staff in overseeing the administrative and directional planning of the church (I Timothy 5:17).  This shall include shaping policy and upholding doctrine. The elders are to be the decision-making arm of the church. The term of service is four years.

Biblical Qualifications for an Elder

(I Timothy 3:1-7, I Timothy 5:17-22, Titus 1:5-9, and James 5:14)

  1. Godly character: Above reproach, respectable, having a good reputation outside the church, temperate, gentle, uncontentious, not self-willed, just, free from the love of money (as a minimum, tithers), self-controlled and prudent.
  2. Able to teach.
  3. Good manager of his own household: If married, faithful to his wife, hospitable, having children who believe.
  4. Spiritual maturity: Not a new convert; devout. They oversee matters of church discipline.
  5. Prayer: Pray for the sick.

DEACONS

Definition of a Deacon

One who minsiters or one who serves.


Biblical Qualifications for a Deacon

  1. Men of Dignity: Whose reputation within and outside the church is beyond reproach. (I Timothy 3:8; Acts 6:3)
  2. Men of Integrity: Those who are not double tongued, but honest in speech.               (I Timothy 3:8)
